Workflow · 4 steps
A wedding with one party from outside the parish
A partner from elsewhere becomes a member when the marriage is recorded, the couple’s household is settled in the same step, and the anniversary is remembered from then on.
Step by step
Step 1: The family asks for a wedding date
Head of familyon Ask the office, in the phone app
The couple are named: the partner from this parish chosen from the family, the partner from elsewhere typed in, with whether they will join this parish. Witnesses are named the same way.
What the others see: The office sees the request with the couple and the witnesses, and the banns and pre-marriage course certificates asked for alongside it.
Step 2: The vicar approves the date
Vicaron Dates asked for
The vicar checks the calendar for a clash and approves the date, or proposes another.
What the others see: The wedding goes on the parish calendar and the family is told on their phone.
Step 3: The office records the marriage
Parish officeon Marriage register
After the wedding the office records it. The partner from outside becomes a member of the parish, and the office chooses the household: a new one with the head it names, the groom’s, the bride’s, or none.
What the others see: The couple’s earlier households show that they left on the wedding day, for marriage. Their new household appears in the directory.
Step 4: Certificates follow from the entry
Parish officeon Certificates
Marriage, banns and pre-marriage course certificates are filled in from the recorded entry.
What the others see: Each year after, the wedding anniversary appears in the parish’s celebrations.
How it ends
A recorded marriage with its serial number, a new member of the parish, the couple in one household, and an anniversary the parish will remember.
